Dr. Seuss stories lend themselves nicely to creative art projects. Depending on the age/ability of your students, select either part or all of a book to read aloud. While reading, do not show them the pictures. Instead, encourage them to visualize what you are reading and draw their own illustration. If you are reading one of the longer stories, you may want to give each student a different page to illustrate. Once students are done, display the illustrations and see if their classmates can guess which portion of the book they illustrated. We have provided a worksheet for you to use.
We created a custom word search using our powerful Word Search Maker.
You can create your own custom word search puzzles and customize the shapes and colors for free (most powerful word search maker on the internet!). If you prefer, you can download our Word Search, and the Key for free.

Provide each student with a copy of the worksheet provided. Have them go around the room and make a list of items they think are one foot in length. For homework, have the students take their paper home and find items around their house that are one foot in length. Once the students have their lists, they have use a ruler to actually measure the items. Depending on the age of your students, provide them with directions as to how close you would like them to be. (i.e. Have them put a + next to each item that they were within one inch on their estimate.)
